Movie Poster Project by Ben Adams
This is my movie poster. A science fiction film called Ocean World.
Set in a dystopian future where Earth's oceans have been polluted to the point of near uninhabitability, a private organization dedicated to helping the world's creatures establish a massive theme park to serve as sanctuary for the ocean's animals, simulating their lost environments without interruption and not forcing them to perform for shows. However, one day when submarines are scouting the littered outside seas for any troubled animals, they discover that remaining creatures have evolved to survive the trash and even go as far as to dispose of it, leaving the runners of the park with a major dilemma: shut down the park and bring the animals home, or remain in operation even while recovery awaits?
It's a dumb idea, but I bet it would be visually stunning.
The original image used for the poster is the person looking at the whale. It's me!
Sounds like a fun movie, I hope you make it someday! What jumps out at me is that the typeface, color, and placement of your text is very well integrated, and compositionally uniting. As far as the other image layers, I wonder if more could have been done to integrate the foreground into the middle ground. The major action is quite compressed into the middle ground (figure, fence, whale). Finding some opportunities for depth in between them or receding into the fore- or background might have provided more dynamic eye-lines for the viewer to follow. Either shadowing or color balancing on your figure, as well as considering a few more symbolic elements that might indicate the foreboding message of the dystopian film, might have pushed the design a little further. That said, it's a well balanced and eye-catching image.
