final project statement w project

Image
ED - title  My final project is about struggling with anorexia. I got diagnosed this year and the past couple of months have been a blur, with the constantly being a doctors appointments and feeling trapped inside my own body. I made a collage on photoshop. With lots layers and precision. I then added gifs and pictures to make a longer gif of not just the process. I found it hard to really express what I am going through but this project really helped. The significance is that this project represents me and my struggles with food and the new relationships I am building now that I do have a eating disorder. The way I perceive things has changed. Just like how learning the backstory of a photo can change things.

Final Project Written Statement - DJ

The overall concept for my final project is to sit down with one of my close friends and have a conversation about our different childhoods and talk how it may have affected how we see our futures. Another big topic I want to talk about is how the pandemic changed our outlook on life and how it affect our generation. When you think of this project as far as editing I don't plan of doing anything too crazy. I would like the video to speak for itself and not having to use too much special affects for the editing. The intention behind this piece is to start a conversation. One thing Professor Sapphire said when I was talking to him about this project is he would like to see how our generation is handling life durning/after the pandemic and how we think it will change our outlook on things. I feel like this generation tends to keep in a lot of things in fear that the older generation won't understand how we feel. By making this video I would like to give the older generation a litt...

final project statement

So my final project will be a video that mocks the NFT craze by making a parody "how to make an NFT" tutorial. I plan on framing it as a genuine youtube tutorial on creating an NFT created by someone who doesn't know what he/she is talking about. I'm mostly going to screen capture me messing around in photoshop and creating an image of a cake that I will frame as an NFT I am making. I may also actually post it on Youtube and Reddit to see the comment reactions if it gets popular somehow.

Final project statement

A tutorial on how to create the fabled sandvitch. The video itself is a comedy sketch that seeks to parody the popular formula for youtube tutorials. The video will use 2d graphics, humor, and some Russian to highlight how and why youtube tutorials are fundamentally flawed. This shall all be done while maintaining the guise of pure comedy. The video will also be entertaining enough for a general audience who is unaware of the intention. While still accomplishing its goal of undermining the formula for tutorials.

Final Project Statement - GM

For my final project, I am making a supercut of some of my favorite moments involving the YouTube channel OffCanny.(https://www.youtube.com/c/OFFCANNY) My resources are mostly just mp4's of their videos, which I'm editing down from about 10 minutes each to about 35-70 seconds. After I've cut down all the source videos, I am going to stitch them together in the order I think they belong in. I am also planning on using some sort of music in the background, both to tie the mood of the supercut together, and to cover up clips where the audio is borderline unusable. My goal is to make the theme very intense and fast paced, while also having a lot of humor involved. I plan to not only upload my final result here, but also on some OffCanny fan forums.

My Written Statement for the Final Project

"The Underdogs of this Era" is a project that mentions a lot of fictional characters that have made an impact in my generation. When kids grew up the typical thought to mind is that they’d all want to be like Superman; Strong, Fast, Intelligent and Handsome but no. According to comic experts Spiderman is a fan favorite for kids since 1962, and he is a nerd that has limitations as a hero. So, I will present a video that shows my beliefs of why my generation has admired these characters, and why they are relevant till this day. Overall, this project will present characters that kids from my time 1998 can identify with. But also, the reason writers aim to make characters this certain way.

what to expect on to see in the final

My final project will be a trailer from my movie poster, chef beetle showing clips and narration of what to expect from the film when it's released in theaters. The concept of making a movie poster, why not make a trailer? Will be using photoshop and premiere pro to make the trailer photoshop for the set and premier to bring beetle to life. Just for fun and had no other options, no clue what to present in the final, but an idea has arisen with some advice and encouragement. Wonder how will it turn out as well; who knows I could make an actual move so everyone could see

Description of my Final Project, by Ben Adams

This final project that I have in mind is meant to be a short film, which is kind of an experimental video essay with .gifs in it. The concept though, is about how time is something that can feel pressuring, constricting, a shadow upon life, completely unavoidable. The .gifs I have found on the internet alongside original footage I plan to make will be my attempt at conveying this message. I will be using Adobe Premier to make this short film, and I hope the end results are what I plan them to be. There is no big real world issue I am trying to address with this, I just want to try and create something more existential. I cannot wait to see how this turns out, and once again, I hope it isn't crap.

Chef Boyardee Commercial - Rolling can

Chef Boyardee targets children convincing their parents to purchase Chef Boyardee. It's the most simple meal ever; you just have to warm it up in the microwave. It's in a grocery store looking in the aisle. Chef Boyardee, in self mother, said no child is sad the can roll and follows the family to other home and the can roll on the lap looking at can child makes a smile then showing Chef Boyardee in many options a warm-up out of the can end of the ad. Also, targeting the adults that it's a great idea to buy Chef Boyardee for their kids.

Rapunzel Doesn't Need a Prince (Amazon) - DJ

The commercial I'm using is 'Rapunzel Doesn't Need a Prince' by Amazon. This commercial seems to be targeted towards business owners and Gen Z. Amazon is an company we've all grown up knowing up and as the years go by the technology has gotten more simpler to use. In light of the pandemic a lot of people have taken to starting their own businesses and taking their hobbies more serious, even quitting they're jobs to work solely on their business. In the commercial Rapunzel buys herself a latter to get out of the castle instead of waiting for her prince. The commercial goes on to talk about Rapunzel starting her whole business and ends with "And the prince well who care". Which pushes the idea that woman are no longer waiting to be saved but instead are taking actions into their own hands.
Grimaldy R. Roldan               This commercial is a gum commercial by EXTRA. In this commercial a couple that had met in high school, and the girl had shared a piece of gum to the boy. Then the gum exchange was shared in dates and special occasions like prom. Towards the end of the video the boy is now an adult and had made cartoons on the gum wraps remembering her of those special occasions she had with him. This commercial is aimed towards a wide range of consumers from 14-year-old young boys and girls and middle adults as well. For these teenagers to want a nice relationship, and for adults that miss their high school crushes. Also, it can intrigue older couple that had a similar relationship when younger. The producer helps intrigue the audience on the gum when the boy and girl share the gum on every occasion. The gum needed to be exchanged for every event to occur. This makes the audience want to buy the gu...

Ad Analysis of Geico TV Commercial Trick Play

This advertisement appears to be targeting people who are in the age range of  early to mid-20s.  Being an insurance company, they are likely looking for individuals who need to find a way to pay less on insurance.  or those who have left recently The football teams shown appear to have a score overlay that feels distinctly like a parody of the college football overlays. The humor we see in the actual advertisement leans more toward surreal humor. The things in the ad are certainly not going to happen in real life, but they make for some interesting interactions. In general, this style of comedy seems to tap more into the chaotic forms of internet humor we see on social media platforms like Reddit, though it is done in a mainstream media manner. The announcer also mentions that it's going to be a "Long bus ride home for the defense" which still leans towards a younger audience and towards this being a college team. The phone held up by the hand towards the end appea...

Analysis of Bud Light Seltzer Retro Tie Dye Pack TV Commercial

The advertisement I chose to analyze fits into the category of short and sweet TV spots. This short and sweet approach typically follows the same formula from ad to ad. The only driving factor for short advertisements that comes to mind is the idea of selling your product before the viewer can lose attention. The advertisement in question begins in a very laid back setting, accompanied by average looking adults and young adults, using very comfortable and normalized body language. This is done to create a sense of relatability among the more mature target audience, however mature adults are not the only target of this ad. The more predatory end of the marketing techniques are revealed as the commercial intensifies. Our laid back and mature setting quickly and completely shifts into a more energetic and lively scene. As with most alcohol marketing, especially for hard seltzers, this product is also being subtly advertised to minors. This is made clear by the addition of loud music,...

Analysis of McDonald's Spicy Chicken Sandwich Advertisement

Nowadays, McDonald's has gone for a less elaborate advertisement campaign, but the methods don't seem to have changed by a lot. Let's start with the big stuff though. In order to try and showcase more of an awareness to match the current world we live in, the voiceover for the ad is one that could be described simply as smooth yet friendly. To add even more of a familiarity, the voiceover speaks out the McDonald's Ba-dum-pump-pa-pa, jingle. The ad also goes into detail by describing what effect the product is claimed to have on one who consumes it, saying the usual phrases like, "sweet, spicy taste when it hits your tongue". In basic terms, the ad is trying to connect with modern day audiences, who aren't interested in the fad of fast food while at the same time not completely reshape their rhythm. The ad also goes to great lengths to try and make the product on the screen look as good as the ad describes it. From what we can assume, this sandwich would d...

BKA Processing Bubbles the Code Dog Project

Image
Photoshop Original. I did not realize that there was no need for a Blogger post, but I'm just going to write this anyway. This is Bubbles, a rather blobbish dog brought to life through code. He may look strange, but he's a true delight. He likes walks in the park, has a cheerful can-do attitude, and goes by the Monty Python credo of always looking on the bright side of life.  I had a fun time bringing this odd character to life.

I thought glitch art was super cool and interesting. I love seeing people use technology as a medium and this is just that. So much can be done with glitch that I never even thought about. The videos also helped me change the way I view the technology I am using. Thinking more about doing the “wrong” rather than just using apps the way the are “supposed to used. Thinking more about how the app functions etc. I never really knew the origin of files types and thinking about the roles they play politically is so cool. It’s hard to realize that pictures (supposed to show the facts) can distort the truth just like anything else can and I think that is really interesting.  The presentation on image composition was so fascinating. I think everything was so cool honestly. this presentation really changed the way I view photography as a medium and a art form. Especially in the political sense, with the photographers that used a dead child as prop. I wouldn’t ever think of doing that....

Movie Poster - DJ

This project was a lot of fun and challenging. I struggled to find a theme that I wanted my poster to be but when I finally figured it out it was really cool to have a photoshoot and mess around with photoshop again. I will definitely  say the most challenging parts was lining up the photo in the mirror and the ghost (mostly the  ghost). For the mirror photo I erased the inside of the mirror and shrunk the photo as best as I could. For the ghost I traced a google image I had and colored it in with a deep red then turned the opacity down as best as I could.

Movie Poster Project by Ben Adams

Image
This is my movie poster. A science fiction film called Ocean World . Set in a dystopian future where Earth's oceans have been polluted to the point of near uninhabitability, a private organization dedicated to helping the world's creatures establish a massive theme park to serve as sanctuary for the ocean's animals, simulating their lost environments without interruption and not forcing them to perform for shows. However, one day when submarines are scouting the littered outside seas for any troubled animals, they discover that remaining creatures have evolved to survive the trash and even go as far as to dispose of it, leaving the runners of the park with a major dilemma: shut down the park and bring the animals home, or remain in operation even while recovery awaits? It's a dumb idea, but I bet it would be visually stunning. The original image used for the poster is the person looking at the whale. It's me!

Composition and Manipulation

With Composition and Manipulation I found it really interesting how photographer's adjust their pictures a certain way to grab the attention of viewers. I never realized how the golden proportion grabs the attention of so many people by just moving the center of the picture to a specific corner. That gives the picture a different point of view.  Another point that was interesting is how Connotation and Denotation changes the meaning of a picture. It changes a perspective with a simple crop, or zoom. The picture taken in Haiti had a sense of Connotation and Denotation, by adding to the dead civilian people walking in the back ground, ignoring her. Also by making the picture inclined, that made the picture look like it was in danger. That gave the picture look like a sense of a cliff or an edge, that gave it a sense of danger. In general manipulating pictures to make a message more dramatic, or to change a meaning of it fascinated me.

Composition & Manipulation - DJ

After reviewing the slides it refreshed some information I already knew from my photography dark room class, composition specifically. Rule of thirds is something I've known about for a while and try to work on it the best I can. I think I'm so use to placing the object I'm shooting in the center of the frame that it could be better to change that. I think the photo on slide 7 is very interesting in the way it was shot. In class we talked about how maybe the photograph should've brought the camera dow to show what the kids are looking at/playing with. But I personally thought it was a good choice to not capture it because it leave the audience open to their own imagination. Are they playing a game, are they looking at something, we don't know. If the photo was shot with showing what the kids were looking at  and in the background you could kind of see the makeshift window I think more people would be interested in what's happening in the background.   Looking in...

Image Composite Response

Photoshop is an extremely creativity aimed tool. It is a tool that, when used right, can bring fiction to life. However, often times when a creator mashes two images together the final product doesn't appear convincing or realistic. That being said, with the abilities given to the user realism is quite possible. Through the use of blending, gradients, and masking tools the user is able to create something that's not only realistic, but completely original to them. With enough time and creativity making a photo realistic fantasy world is possible, and often on social media these fake realities are presented as the truth. This deceit can also be used in ways that harm the public image of a person or entity.

Composition Manipulation

Photoshop really is a powerful tool for manipulating images. It's fascinating to consider just how good a well-doctored photo can look. It's even more interesting to consider how good we are at noticing when a photo has a small discrepancy in it. We don't need to be actively searching for a discrepancy in the image, we can tell that something is off. Because of this, it can be very difficult to create a single realistic image from several images. Small discrepancies like the images having slightly different saturation levels, added images not casting a shadow, or the lighting on the added image differing from the background. All of these things can make it apparent that something is off with very little effort on the part of the viewer. It's amazing how easily we can interpret an image as unnatural. It raises the question of what sort of evolutionary advantages come from such an ability. Do you think it has any advantages?

reaction on the composition and manipulation

After reading and looking through the slides, learn of two methods, gid, and golden proportions. Not know what golden portions are to me. It looked like a giant seashell the picture reference on using the grid lines made a scene on how practical taking a photo is. The history behind photos really amazes the first early image all the way in 1839 blows my mind today how the evolution of talking phots now is simply pulling out your phone and take a picture no limit on how bright or how dark the scene is. An image has diverse meanings; one of the slides on john Wilkes him getting execution did not know who he was before, but as the picture got more prominent, making clues on what was going on.  My favorite slide would be on the image of the tendons and the snake river by Ansel Adams really love the landscape of trees, mountains. Wonder when he took this photo really early in the morning or evening. The extensive image 99 cents by Andreas Gursky looks really closely like the book where ...

Response to Photo Slideshow by Ben Adams

I have to say, I was rather surprised by how rich the history of photo composition and manipulation is. I've grown up in a world where people just seem to take pictures for the sake of bragging, and the results aren't that well executed. Of course there's Photoshop, but there is also the fact that professional photography takes tons of time, that makes pictures taken for art seem much more impressive. I'd pretty much call professional photography just as complex as filming a scene for a movie, if not even more difficult. I was also intrigued by the fact that photo manipulation had been around since WWII, and I have to say it made sense with the whole Mussolini thing. Even then it was still a reflection of something troubling. Photo manipulation can create art (like the weird warehouse and superstore things), but it can be used for more selfish reasons, and I think it is reflective of the vanities of today's technology obsessed world. Everybody wants something to lo...

This image is from an Anime ( Japanese film ) called Demon Slayer. I was using liquify to make it seem like the character was activating a special move, just like anime characters would. Also made his color gradually go from light to dark like if he slowly was transforming into being evil. Had lots of fun with the layers in this project, and actually sent it to a friend.

My .GIF: BKA Colorflash: An Homage to Stanley Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey, by Ben Adams

This is a simple .gif I did, but I think it works as a slightly organized chaos. What I like about it is that it is a symphony of color that is never always the same, but the meaning is never lost. What the meaning is though, that's up to the viewer.

On the topic of glitch art (response post)

I find the concept of glitch art, in general, to be quite interesting, and the quote used by Nick to describe it really speaks to me. "Glitch art is anytime an artist intentionally leverages this moment that moment, by either recontextualizing or provoking glitches." This really gets into the core of what I feel like glitch art is, It's a creative median that revolves around taking a moment in time, and drastically altering it in a way that (to my knowledge) applications like photoshop cannot accomplish. This, however, does raise an interesting question under copyright law. Is creating glitch art out of an image taken from the internet fair use? Generally speaking, a transformative piece of media usually falls into the fair use category. Things such as parody or criticism of a copyrighted work. So is glitch art transformative? I would say it is. Glitch art takes the original image and (in my interpretation of Nick's quote) attempts to give it a new artistic meaning. ...

Glitch Art Response

The very first thing that stands out to me in this series of videos is the idea of community, especially considering that even within the digital arts community, glitch is quite obscure. Nonetheless, there is still a widespread community all sharing an interest in the same topic. While I do agree with the idea that the term "glitch" has very basic digital origins, I do not agree that using the term elsewhere undermines its meaning, as a matter of fact, I think it gives more validity to the word itself. The word glitch is often defined as a short lived fault within a system, and while typically the system in question is a digital system, you can find temporary faults within the real world all the same, take the stock market fiascos of the past year as an example, there was no computer error/fault involved, but rather an oversight by the people on wall street, and the issue was short lived, as they tightened restrictions on open stock market applications. On another note, I...

Glitch Art POV

“glitch art”  means visual glitches, it could be in a still or moving image. It is made by either “capturing” an image of a glitch as it randomly happens, or more often by someone changing their digital files, software to make these “errors.”people have posted a bunch of tutorials online explaining how to make glitch art. There are many different ways to making these glitches happen on demand, from physical changes to the software to direct changes of the digital files themselves.

On Nick Briz

Mr. Briz's series on glitch art, digital literacy, and copyright highlights how using software for incorrect applications is more than a "haha funni picture much lolz" kind of interaction. While it can seem that glitch art is an instance of a "haha funni picture much lolz" situation, Briz shows that it can be a form of resistance against the rigid and uncompromising format of modern software and technology. If you don't use a software in the intended way, well then you are met with errors and crashes. a rather simple way of going around these limitations is to be digitally literate about the basic functions of the digital world like file extensions and what program can edit or read a certain extension. this then can go into a long rant about how the different extensions show what kind of philosophy the creator of the extension follows or ,more accurately, who payed the creator to make it. this then can nicely tie into the absurd world of copyright law and h...

thoughts on glitch art

Learn a lot about glitch art never know what could happen to an image. Glitch is like a hybrid between numbers and the software doing. Glitches, it really could be anything with music, videos, or even drawing. And creating glitch art can use anything software.WWF file is a file that can view but cannot print pdf prevent copying text document is for certain people who have access. More advance on we get apps or files are now environments effect does not matter who or what the post is about more on using part of our lives there are limitations on handheld devices than computers anything that the owner desires while the iPad not so much getting a paid app half of the profit will go to apple. Advertise audience viewers to buy their product. The videos were very informational between the definition, political, and glitches really enjoyed it.

Thoughts on GLITCH ART

Nick Briz what an interesting content creator. When I first found out of glitch art, I saw it as a fun activity but Nick changed my whole perspective of what glitch art is. The explanation he gave that said glitch art is not a glitch, because we are consciously doing things the wrong way. Really opened my mind and showed me why it is called glitch art. To do glitch art you have to purposely modify an image and create an error. The fact that people can create art with errors amazes me. That is why the third video was my favorite because Nick involved the political aspect of glitch art. Once Nick says that apps are created with the creator’s aspect of the world surprised and caught my attention. He proceeded and mentioned that the app “Doc” only can be used with apps that are authorized, because Microsoft does not trust in users that can manipulate the companies app. Then mentions that WWF, is an app that does not have a print option, because the creator believed in users that can ...

Glitch Essay - Deziree Jernigan (9/17)

Prior to this class I had no experience with glitch art. I thought a glitch on an image happened by accident and it would ruin the picture to no saving. I never knew glitch art was an intentional art form. While watching Nick Briz video I learned that there is an entire communicate when it comes to glitch art. I also learned how stuff goes into glitch art and how you're often pushed to think outside the box and break some rules. Someone Briz brought up that made me want to look into his work is Benjamin Gaulon. From looking at his Kindle glitch art piece. His art seems more on the simpler side while still incorporating Glitch. I will say when I first saw glitch art I wasn’t the biggest fan of it. But getting to hear the impact it has on people I learned to have a bigger appreciation for it.

9/17 Blog Post on Glitch Art and all the other stuff By Ben Adams

I honestly had no idea that glitch art existed before this class started, and I am surprised by how intricately people can view it. To me, glitches are just these weird occurrences that happen when something digital goes haywire, so I can't really relate. But the fact that people view it as almost a cultural revolution is something new to me. Add that to my also recent discovery of how deep this pit can go, with people unleashing a digital graffiti rebellion on things like simple images or even to social media pages. Again, it's a strange concept to me, especially with the way this Nick Briz guy seems to worship such ideas. It's also a sign of how the internet is something almost like what I would call an invisible nation. Although in this case its a dystopian one. Everybody wants control over this digital landscape for whatever reason they have, and nobody really seems to be winning. No matter how hard larger corporations try to maintain their copyrights, people still go ...

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise?

I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.
