My Written Statement for the Final Project
"The Underdogs of this Era" is a project that mentions a lot of
fictional characters that have made an impact in my generation. When kids grew
up the typical thought to mind is that they’d all want to be like Superman;
Strong, Fast, Intelligent and Handsome but no. According to comic experts Spiderman
is a fan favorite for kids since 1962, and he is a nerd that has limitations as
a hero. So, I will present a video that shows my beliefs of why my generation has admired these characters, and why they are relevant till this day. Overall, this
project will present characters that kids from my time 1998 can identify with.
But also, the reason writers aim to make characters this certain way.
This is shaping up to be a straight-forward documentary or video essay-style project. I think defining it as such will help you to be confident about the materials that you use, the importance of the voiceover narrative, and the legibility of the overall piece. If you haven't already, I recommend starting with the writing. This will allow you to shape it and structure it with a clear point, then support that point with examples and details. Once it's written and recorded, the visuals can be used to cut and illustrate to the voice, which will help you stay organized and concise. As in the Ad Analysis video, you'll then also be able to freezeframe on particular shots to let your voiceover expand on a particular detail or issue. Looking forward to seeing your progress on Thursday!
